In Africa, a lot of internet traffic comes from mobile devices. Gone are the days when people only surfed the web from their desktop computers. Today, tablets and smart phones are constantly being used to browse content online and network. Here are a few mobile strategies that will work:
Make sure your website is mobile friendly
This isn’t just a tip, it’s vital to the success of your SEO strategy. Google has been warning web developers that mobile websites are preferred for years and they recently announced they will be penalising websites that aren’t mobile friendly from 21 April 2015. From this date onwards, Google will let your competitor rank higher in search engine results if their website is mobile friendly and yours isn’t.
“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.” (Read the full announcement on Google’s Webmaster Central blog). You can use Google’s Mobile-Friendly test to find out if your website is mobile friendly.
Send messages if you’ve got a promotion or deal coming up
You don’t have a huge window of opportunity when it comes to engaging with a client via text messaging. Make sure you’re offering them something worthwhile when you send a message (such as a promotion or special offer).
Integrate your mobile strategy with social media
First Data reported that 81% of mobile users check social media to see what’s being said about a brand or product before they make a purchasing decision. Make sure you’re posting content about your brand, products and special offers on social media if you’re running a mobile marketing campaign.
